The Hottest Spots to Cool Off in Park City

Summers can sizzle in Park City!  We are lucky here in the Wasatch Mountains, warm, sunny days followed by cool, starry nights at altitude – the best of both worlds.  The sun can be pretty powerful at altitude, so you may want to spend a day or two lounging by one of Park City’s fantastic pools located at one of Park City’s fabulous hotels!

The Amazing Salt Water Pool at Hotel Park City

One of the best pools to lounge by is the sparkling salt water pool at Hotel Park City.  While you’re relaxing in one of their cushioned chez loungers, you’ll have spectacular vistas of Park City Municipal Golf Course, Park City Mountain Resort, and the lovely resort grounds surrounding you.  What makes this the perfect place to enjoy a lazy poolside day is the fact that you can pick up one of the poolside phones and order a delicious lunch or a refreshing beverage.  When we hit this pool, we sometimes head to the municipal golf course driving range, just steps away, hit a bucket of balls, and then head to the pool for a little R&R.  The ambiance at Hotel Park City’s pool is country club-esque!

The St. Regis Pool Deck

Another fabulous pool is located at the St. Regis.  You’ll take in amazing views of Deer Valley as you kick back by the St. Regis’s secluded, heated outdoor pool.  When things get a little chilly, scamper over to the bubbling hot tub and relax those tired muscles aching from a day well spent exploring the miles of trails just outside your door in Deer Valley.  In the evening, grab one of their unique, award winning cocktails and head over to one of their uber modern outdoor firepit son the pool deck.  Really, it’s serious indulgence to pamper yourself at the St. Regis!

Luxuriate in the Spa and Heated Pool at Stein Eriksen Lodge

The Stein Eriksen Lodge hosts an amazing pool, located adjacent to their award winning spa.  Sit back and relax while enjoying slope-side views of Deer Valley, and when the mood hits, take a dip in their heated pool or hot tub.  To cap off the day, bring the whole gang to hang out by the gorgeous outdoor fire pit, grab some marshmallows and make s’mores while you catch up on all of the days activities.  Perhaps you’ll be tempted to sample one of the spa’s fabulous services.  If you’re searching for a serious pampering with the one you love, book the couples massage room.  It’s absolutely indulgent! The couple’s treatment rooms, complete with private showers and tubs and a shared private relaxation suite with a fireplace, will certainly add a little spark to your Park City vacation!

Sundial Lodge Offers A Cozy Pool and Rooftop Hot Tub

Head to the other end of town and enjoy your day lounging by the Sundial Lodge pool, located at the Canyons resort.  A smaller, cozy pool, it’s serenity is drawn from the staggering beautiful surroundings of the Canyons Resort which wraps itself around you as you gaze up from a comfy lounge chair.  Feeling like you need a bird’s eye view?  Head up to the rooftop and relax in the hot tub!  It’s a fantastic place to take it all in after a day of exploring the expanse area that is Canyons!  Mountain biking, hiking, lunch at the Red Pine Lodge – you may not be able to fit it all in, but you’ll enjoy reminiscing a day well spent while taking a dip in the heated pool.  The Sundial Lodge is always a popular place to spend a Park City vacation!

Park City Still Carries A Torch For The Olympic Games!

Park City loves the Olympics, there’s no doubt about it!  We all threw ourselves in to the 2002 games when they arrived to Park City, and each time the games come around again, winter or summer, we all love to celebrate the amazing athletes, the American pride, and the unbelieveable time we all had during the 2002 Olympic Games!

During your visit to Park City, you too can enjoy a taste of the Olympic spirit!  Saturday, June 23rd, 2012 has officially been proclaimed Olympic Day in Summit County.  Beginning at 4PM until 5PM, a community event will be held at the Utah Olympic Park in conjunction with the National Ability Center, and will include Olympic and Paralympic athletes in a meet and greet setting, sport activities and displays.  At 5PM, prior to the weekly summer Flying Ace All-Star Freestyle Show, Olympic Athlete Shannon Bharke will lead the crowd in a celebration of the Olympic Movement in the spirit of the Summer Olympic Games that are just around the corner in London.  Dave Ure, the Summit County Council Chair, will read the official Olympic Day Proclamation which is demonstrative of Summit County’s support of physical fitness and participation in athletic activities.  After the ceremony – the flying will begin!  You’ll be wowed by the Flying Aces show which showcases the U.S. Aerial team and their amazing athletic feats above ground before they splash down in to the bubbling pool below! It really doesn’t get much more Olympic than that!

As you explore Park City, you’ll notice all sorts of Olympic memorabilia still standing.  From sculpture to the official Olympic Signage, the 2002 games truly left it’s signature in Park City!  You can visit some of the Olympic venues during your stay.  Of course, there is the aforementioned Utah Olympic Legacy Park, located in Kimball Junction.  Park City Mountain Resort hosted Giant Slalom and Snowboarding

Park City Gets Spicy!

Of course Park City has a host of world-class dining establishments that include fare from all over the globe; from French classic cuisine to great American BBQ classics, every palate will be pleased with the culinary delights that exist in our quaint little ski town.  However, sometimes, you just need to spice things up and push the dining envelope a bit – enjoy a meal that is truly exotic and full of unique flavor.  Well, we’ve got that here in Park City too; here are a few options for you to try…no passport necessary!

Spice Things Up At Cafe Trang

Cafe Trang, located at 1811 Sidewinder Drive, offers Vietnamese cuisine along with a few Chinese favorites and is the recipient of numerous Best In State awards for their consistently delicious Asian fare.  You won’t walk away hungry, as the portion sizes are ample, and best when shared so everyone can delight in the complex flavors of Vietnamese and Cantonese food.  Try one of their Hot Wok Noodle dishes, made with protien or tofu, or perhaps a traditional curry dish is more your speed.  Looking for something a little lighter?  Try their signature Mango Fish for dinner, or their Vegetable Egg Noodle Soup.  The menu is quite varied and large – it’s tough to choose, so bring some friends, order a wide selection and enjoy!

Enjoy a Taste of the Southwest at Chimayo

Another fantastic choice for a walk on the spicy side is Chimayo, a very distinctivee Southwestern Restaurant located at 368 Main Street.  When you step in to Chimayo, you certainly feel like you have taken a step across the boarder.  With glowing lanterns, wrought iron detail and touches of Southwestern flare in each nook and corner, the illusion of being transported to a chic Southwestern destination is complete.  Begin your evening with one of their signature margaritas – my favorite Margarita in Park City!  Then, enjoy snacking on some of their house-made bread accompanied by amazing balsamic dipping sauce.  But don’t fill up too much – you’ll surely want to try one of their yummy starters, like the Herb Dusted Calamari.  When you move along to the entrees, you may choose to pick one of the locals favorites, like the Coconut and Corn Encrusted Halibut, or the Crown Roast of BBQ Spareribs.  Finish off your Southwestern dining adventure with the  Mexican Chocolate Fondue, or a few Mexican Wedding Cookies!  Muy Delicioso!

Locals Melissa and Kristen Enjoying an Evening at the Loco Lizard

Finally, if you happen to be staying in a fabulous Kimball Junction hotel,  you’ll definatley want to enjoy lunch or dinner at the Loco Lizard Cantina, located at 1612 Ute Boulevard, right in the shopping area located there.  The Lizard is a long-time locals favorite spot for dining.  The Cantina itself is contemporary and comfortable while the recipes are touched with Old World flare.  Featuring a variety of traditional Mexican cuisine, everyone will find their favorite easily on their varied menu.  I’m a big fan of their fresh, house-made salsa! The Lizard has an amazing selection of Carnitas, Salmon Tacos, Carne Asada, Pozole, Tamales and fresh seafood items.  The Lizard also serves brunch on Saturday and Sunday and has a great little patio for outdoor dining.  They have a kids menu available too for the little ones in your group.

Sunday Fun-Day in Park City!

Life is busy. Even those of us fortunate enough to live in a resort town like Park City, Utah have to remind ourselves to take a moment to slow down and relax every now and again.  In order to be successful at the R&R mission, my husband and I have decided that each Sunday we will take the time to become tourists in our own town – to slow down for one day just long enough to truly enjoy the amazing Park City area and experience some of the activities we have always desired to check out, but never had the time.  This Sunday was spent doing one of my favorite things, as it happens so infrequently…absolutely nothing!

No Worries Cafe - A True Mountain Cafe!

We began our morning with breakfast at No Worries Cafe - aptly named for our mission of relaxation!  No Worries is a true locals favorite, as it is located a bit off the beaten track in Summit Park, a short 15 or so minute drive out of the Main Street area in Park City.  Don’t let the location dissuade you, as it is attached to a Sinclair Gas Station, just off of I-80 at the Parley’s Summit exit.  This hidden gem serves up home-style breakfast and lunch every day, and has outdoor seating available.  No Worries is family owned, and offers mouth-watering custom breakfast omelets, hearty breakfast skillets, as well as incredible daily lunch specials all whipped up by owner and former 5-star chef, Dante.  Try the “50-Ways to Make Your Burger” lunch option – the name says it all.  With more options than you can imagine, you are left to craft a gourmet burger of your own design! Veggie burgers are available too.  If you really want to feel like a local, and have a fantastic meal while you’re at it, head on up to No Worries!

Glorious Days by the Pool at Hotel Park City

After our delicious breakfast, we headed over to Hotel Park City to indulge in a day by their sparkling pool.  If you’re not a guest of the hotel, the helpful spa staff will happily offer you different punch card options from a one-time pass to a ten use punch card.  Annual and seasonal memberships are also available for purchase if you travel to Park City frequently.  We carved out our space next to the pool, grabbing two comfortable lounge chairs and an umbrella, as our winter white skin has not seen too much sun yet! Nestled in for the day, we absolutely enjoyed napping by the pool, taking a dip in the heated salt water pool every now and again, and gazing out at the spectacular views surrounding us.  Hotel Park City has unobstructed views of the green slopes of Park City Mountain Resort as well as the Park City Golf Course.  Although you can call Bandannas Restaurant, located just steps away in the hotel, from the pool phone and order beverages, lunch or snacks poolside, after a few hours soaking in the sun, we opted to head over to Bandannas and grab lunch while sitting out at one of their shaded outdoor tables.  My Cobb Salad was delicious – and I loved the sun dried tomatoes included in the mix!

Relax Indoors or Out at Bandannas Restaurant

After lunch, we decided it was time to grab something for the grill, in case we decided we were hungry for dinner, and head home.  Our favorite spot to grab items for the grill is Whole Foods, located in Kimball Junction, just a few moments away.  With a wide selection of organic and natural meats and fish, it takes a few moments to choose!  We decided on some yummy chicken and veggie kabobs marinated in a maple rosemary seasoning – a favorite, and a fantastic end to a day well spent relaxing in Park City!  We’ll see what adventure next Sunday will bring!

One of Many Perfect Park City Evenings

Spring in Park City - A Beautiful Time of Year!

This evening we decided to treat ourselves to a night out to enjoy Park City during this beautiful time of year.  Restaurants are beginning to place their dining decks out on Main Street, the trees and flowers are blooming, and the evenings are absolutely amazing; still a little chilly, but sheer Rocky Mountain Perfection!  This is such a great time of year to visit Park City – the late spring / early summer season.  The town has a mellow vibe, parking is easy to come by, and you can explore the shops, restaurants and nightlife with little to get in your way since the busy prime summer season has yet to begin.  Life is good right now in Park City!

Delicious Fare at El Chubasco

We began our evening looking to indulge in a locals favorite affair; Taco Tuesday’s at Windy Ridge Cafe.  With a menu full of yummy Mexican choices, all costing anywhere from $2-$8, you really can’t go wrong!  Plus, Windy Ridge offers drink specials to top off your evening – truly an inexpensive and delicious way to spend an evening.  However, everyone else seemed to have the same plan, so we headed to El Chubasco, located on Bonanza nestled in a little strip mall.  Never a disappointment, the food and service are always fantastic at this local favorite Mexican joint.  I highly recommend “Chubby’s Salad”, as it is chock full of fresh garden veggies, a little cheese, and the grilled protein of your choice.  I can never finish the entire thing!  Another favorite is their enormous and fresh burritos, served with guacamole or smothered, it is an entire meal all wrapped up in a homemade tortilla.  Add a Dos Equis or perhaps an Izzy soda, and your meal is complete!  El Chubasco offers limited seating outside, and it is usually crowded, but always worth the wait.  While you’re waiting, take a peek at the homemade salsa bar and pick out a few house-made salsas to sample with your chips.  Delicioso!

Delicious Treats Abound at Rocky Mountain Chocolate

After dinner, we decided that the evening was too gorgeous to waste by simply heading home, so we decided to take a quick two-minute drive to take a stroll on Main Street.  It’s always a tresat to re-aquaint ourselves with the eclectic shops and galleries that line this charming street, and it’s fun to see dining guests embracing the lovely evening sitting out on Park City’s dining decks.  We decided to head in to Rocky Mountain Chocolates and treat ourselves to a little post-dinner sweet snack.  I can’t resist their fresh caramel apples!  Although they offer an unimaginable array of choices when it comes to what your apple is dipped in, I always opt for plain caramel, perhaps with a little chocolate drizzle – simpy delicious!  Rocky Mountain Chocolates also offers hand made specialty chocolates, ice cream, and even dipped doggie bones for your four-legged family member.

Charming Main Street in Park City

It’s easy to find things to tempt your palate, your artistic side, or your inner foodie while strolling up and down Main Street, and what’s so fantastic about this time of year is thst you can duck in just about anywhere and not worry about waiting in line for a table, or edging through crowds to get that souvenir to take home with you.  What’s even better, the lodging rates are super reasonable in the early summer season. Taking advantage of these seasonal rates will give you a little extra in your wallet to spend on your perfect Park City evening out!

Savor The Summer in Park City

There truly are so many things to savor in the summer here in Park City.  Whether it be the amazing weather, endless outdoor activities, or multitude of cultural events, you’ll find more than you can imagine to keep you busy during your Park City vacation!  Here’s a few tips on how to savor the summer in Park City;

Celebrate Summer and Savor The Summit, June 23, 2012

Savor The Summit is one of the premier dining events of the summer, and this year marks its fifth season.  The Park City Restaurant Association hosts the soiree, and has called it “Park City’s longest dinner party”, since a Grande Table is set down the center of Main Street. Many of Park City’s finest restaurants participate, and each has a section of the table to decorate to their own design.  The decor is usually amazing, and the evening is like nothing you’ve ever experienced!  This unique open air celebration of food, friends and summer in the mountains takes place on Saturday, June 23rd this year.  You’ll be treated to a custom prix fixe menu from the restaurant of your choosing (make sure to make reservations soon!) that will highlight the skills of the Chef and restaurant you are dining with for the evening.  This is truly a unique event, so choose a restaurant, make a reservation, and get ready to kick off the summer season and savor Park City!

Deer Valley Wednesday Night Concerts Begin June 20th

Another way to savor Park City is by enjoying some of the amazing free events that take place all summer long, but begin in June.  A favorite of mine, and many other locals, is the Deer Valley Concert Series, which occurs each Wednesday at the Snow Park Amphitheater.  This season will kick off on June 20th at 6PM with local favorite band Muddpuddle.  This is a weekly event we all look forward to – a break from the week to sit with family and friends and to enjoy a spectacular mountain evening listening to fantastic local music.  Each week the musical vibe may change, but the atmosphere on the hillside stays the same – one of relaxation and appreciation for this amazing ski town!  Pack a picnic basket, grab a bottle of wine, and immerse yourself in this fabulous community event.  You can view the concert line-up at http://www.deervalley.com/events-calendar.html .  Cheers to a fantastic summer of Deer Valley Concerts!

Delectable Dining at the Goldener Hirsch

A fantastic Deer Valley lodging option to use as home base during you visit to Park City is the Goldener Hirsch Inn, located in the heart of Deer Valley.  This luxury lodge gives a nod to European design and elegance and is loaded with the Deer Valley service you have come to expect.  Each of the 20 well-appointed rooms offers an unparalleled attention to detail with feather-topped beds, private balconies, and sunken bathtubs.  If you’re looking to relax and unwind, the hotel will arrange a luxurious spa service for you in your room – a true treat!  You’ll also enjoy dining at their four-diamond restaurant, which has received numerous accolades for it’s wine and menu offerings.  You’ll truly savor Park City in the lap of luxury at the Goldener Hirsch!
